New York (May 2, 2024)–Former Democratic Committee Member Ronald Savage defrauded several agencies of the United States government and the State of New York government to protect accused pedophile Afrika Bambaataa and his enablers from our activism. To confuse the public and law enforcement agencies, he is engaging in an illegal cyberattack against our organization to shut down our outreach and social media channels.
We demand that Savage be investigated by the Ethics Committee of the New York City Council and that the title Honorable be revoked from his name. Savage is a liar and conman who is using deception to co-opt our organization’s name. He has stalked our co-founder, Leila Wills, every day for over a year while claiming he is being bullied.
Savage’s behavior has damaged survivors of child sexual abuse. He is a disgrace to the movement to end abuse and institutional cover-ups.
Hip Hop Stands With Survivors remains resolute in our mission to stop tax-payer dollars from funding institutions that cover up sexual abuse and give shelter to pedophiles. We want mandatory reporting in the music industry and the protection of children in all spaces.
BACKGROUND
In 2016, Ronald Savage was the main whistleblower against Afrika Bambaataa and the Universal Zulu Nation (UZN) when he accused the so-called Godfather of Hip Hop of sexually abusing him when he was underage. Savage annihilated Bambaataa and the UZN when he lit this match and poured gasoline all over the media and internet. The story blew up, and Savage was unable to contain it. He then recanted his story and rejoined the UZN. He is now on a campaign to destroy the John Doe case against Bambaataa, the people who took up his cause and our organization’s activism.
STRONG ENOUGH ACHIEVERS FOUNDATION
We alerted the Strong Enough Achievers Foundation of Ronald Savage’s fraud against the government, profane slurs against homosexuals and gun threats. Former El Nuevo Caribe Democratic Club for the 68th Assembly District Committee member James “CB” Gray is an executive of the Strong Enough Achievers Foundation.
The Foundation features Ronald Savage as part of its organization. Gray has refused a meeting with us and previously said, “If you fuck with Bee Stinger, you fuck with me.” (Bee Stinger is Ronald Savage’s nickname.) The Foundation helped Savage defraud two New York State Senators into issuing a proclamation and recognition certificates under our organization’s name.
WHO WE ARE
Hip Hop Stands With Survivors (HHSWS) is a collective of individuals, groups, and organizations born of people who love hip-hop and refuse to accept corporate, political, and institutional silence for sexual abuse. These entities and individuals have not only made predators safe with their silence; they even promoted those accused of heinous crimes.
This destroys the morale of survivors and all who have loved and worked in hip-hop. Our collective comprises male and female survivors, the survivors of Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation, musicians, artists, parents, empathizers, supporters, child advocates, victim advocates, lawyers, therapists, hip-hop organizations, professionals, and activists.
WHAT WE’VE DONE
In 2022, leading into Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary, we investigated the Universal Hip Hop Museum after discovering it was a trojan horse for museum co-founder Afrika Bambaataa and his Universal Zulu Nation. In 2016, after Savage came forward with his allegations of abuse, several more men accused the so-called Godfather of Hip Hop of sexually abusing them when they were underage.
The museum was slated to receive millions of tax-payer dollars. In February 2023, we publicized our name and issued a 30-page report on the museum to its attorney for a response. With no response, we released the report to the media, funders, elected officials, and the public, exposing the financial relationship between the museum, Bambaataa, and his inner circle.
All communications had our name, logo, website and distinct identity.
As a result of our activism, Bambaataa was not a part of any of the festivities during Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary.
We will not be intimidated or deterred.
We are Hip Hop Stands With Survivors.
